    Posted: 16 July 2010 at 2:25pm
I detected a strange behavior of disk2vhd in Version 1.60. If I launch the program unter 64 Bit Windows (currently I have tested under Windows 7 Ultimate, German edition), the prozess starts after uac prompt. I can see two prozesses in task manager (disk2vhd*32.exe and disk2vhd-tmp.exe). But no application window is shown.

Here is what I have tested:

Windows 7 HP (32 Bit): disk2vhd version 1.60 works fine
Windows 7 Ultim. (64 Bit): disk2vhd version 1.60 stalls
Windows 7 Ultim. (64 Bit): disk2vhd version 1.50 works fine
Windows 7 Ultim. (64 Bit): disk2vhd version 1.40 works fine

I guess, there is still a bug in version 1.6.

Any ideas?

here is an addendum:

I set up compatibility properties for Windows Vista SP 2 for disc2vhd. And afterward the program window is also shown unter 64 Bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

I believe I have the same issue.
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Disk2vhd never displays a screen. The -tmp exe does show up. The event log has a 0xC0000005 error in Disk2vhd-tmp.exe trying to use NTDLL.DLL. Both the System32 and the SysWOW64 versions.
If you have a 1.5 version, can you send me a private message with it? thanks.

I received v1.5. It will run on my Win7-Pro-64bit machine.
The .vhd of my Windows Server 2003 disk will not boot. Probably a different error.
So...
Disk2vhd V1.5 will run.
Disk2vhd v1.6 crashes.
Disk2vhd v1.61 crashes.

I have downloaded v1.62 of Disk2Vhd and it DOES run on my Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit OS.

I have not tried to create a VHD with v1.62 yet.

Downloaded v1.63 of Disk2vhd.

It runs with Win7 Professional 64-Bit. But it is impossible to grab a Windows-XP-Partition and create a VHD from it, that works with Virtual-PC. The Checkbox "Fixup HAL..." resp. "prepare for use in Virtual PC" simply doesn't appear.
I tried several Compatibility-Modes and you need to go back to "Windows XP Service Pack 3", then this checkbox appears. However, when trying to create a VHD now, Disk2vhd bombs out with "Error snapshotting volumes" (yes, the services for shadowing are running).

All this may be due to a stunning limit of Virtual PC:

Quote Virtual PC doesn't support the Multiprocessor Specification and it will not be able to boot VHD's captured from multiprocessor systems.

Time to get a fix for this (maybe Disk2VHD could fix this ?), as single core CPUs are disappearing fast Wink
