I see many problems regarding this new tool listed in this forum, but not the one I am having.
I get no error message at all. In fact, the app tells me "disk export to vhd completed successfully". The problem is that I am trying to export a 74GB partition (with 55GB of data) but the app gives me the completed message after about 15 seconds and only creates a 6.13MB VHD file. Unless someone at Sysinternals has discovered a magical compression algorithm then I don't think my 55GB of data can fit in a 6MB file. I'm so looking forward to being able to use this utility as it IS extremely simple compared to most other P2V solutions. But of course it has to actually work to be useful, and it looks like there is still some debugging to be done on this little app. Thanks for all your other utilities and PLEASE, PLEASE make this one work for me... |

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have over 400GB of free space on the destination NTFS partition, so it is definitely not a free space issue.

Anyone seen this kind of problem? Still the same issue with 1.21. Every time I try to create a VHD from my C drive (a 75GB WD Raptor with 50GB of data) the app tells me it completed successfully after a few seconds and creates the same 6.13MB unusable VHD every time.
I also tried making a VHD of a different partition (100GB partition with 45GB of data) that lives on a RAID volume and this time it gives me the following error: "The disk is too large for a dynamic VHD" Again, this is with version 1.21. What gives? I can't even test out a VHD from this tool because I can't make one in the first place! All of this is made even more frustrating by the fact that there is no option for a log file (at least that I could find) so there is absolutely no troubleshooting I can do to help the developers. |

Tried v1.3 and still no go. Still only creates a 6.13MB unusable VHD file from my 75GB WD Raptor.
Is anyone from Sysinternals actually reading this? |

don't complain about free support. it will get you nowhere, fast.
the problem is likely related to snapshots. make sure you have enough disk space for new snapshots, and delete any snapshots you no longer need. then try again. if this does not work you are entitled to a full refund. |

I wasn't complaining that the problem wasn't solved yet. I was complaining that no developer has even acknowledged the problem that I discovered while testing their beta software. And yes, the software is free, but any respectable software developer is not going to ignore problems with their software if they have any intention of people continuing to use it for any length of time. As for your suggestion, thanks. But I already spent quite some time testing my VSS system and everything checks out. I'm not implying the software doesn't work at all, but there are obviously plenty of system-specific issues people are running into to prove that this tool is not universally ready for prime time yet. |
