    Posted: 28 February 2006 at 8:31am

I am attempting to use regmon on an HP rx8620 running windows 2003 enterprise edition for Itanium.

I reciect the following error:

The image file xxxx\regmon64.exe is valid, bit is for a machine type other than the current macnine.

I did read that regmon supports itanium servers however I'm not sure if the download was for x86 or Itanium.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hi, Kyle.

Hope I am not spreading incorrect information now.
Checked the available download files on the Regmon webpage again.

Note that the 32-bit zip files (the first two) are identical, and works on either Win9x or NT as well as 64-bit (x64) Windows XP and Server 2003.

The 3rd file seems to for 64bit Windows on AMD, telling from the filename "Regmonamd64.zip".

But at the top of the page you can read:
Regmon works on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, Windows 95/98/Me and Windows 64-bit for Itanium and x64.

This seems to suggest that the 3rd download file ought to be for Itanium as well.

Just downloaded the file and compared the executable inside to my regmon.exe (installed from RegmonNt.zip) and they were identical. This would suggest whichever file you download the executables will always be the same.
So the information on the webpage is somewhat confusing.

Karl

Karl,

Thanks for the reply however I have already downloaded from the 3rd link and one of the first 2.

All with the Same error.

However I did a Google search for regmon on IA64 and found the following link:

http://www.only4gurus.com/v3/download.asp?resource=2459

From here I was able to downloas regmonia64.zip This works

The .zip file contains the following files:

02/27/2002  10:43 AM         &nbs p;   1,786 README.TXT
02/27/2002  11:07 AM         &nbs p; 200,704 Regmon.exe
10/22/2000  02:50 PM         &nbs p;  14,622 REGMON.HLP
02/28/2002  07:09 AM         &nbs p;  67,712 Regsys.sys

Again thanks for the reply,

Kyle Herrmann

Hi, Kyle.

Very interesting, following the link you supply you will end up downloading http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/RegmonIa64.zip.

Yet as you probably noticed, it looks pretty outdated, 27-Feb-2002 as opposed to 30-Aug-2005, V4.32 as opposed to v7.02.

Actually, I am pretty sure, although the official webpage states differently that the development for Itanium was stopped in the course of 2005.

If I am wrong I am sure Mark is going to correct me soon.

That's correct, Sysinternals no longer supports the Itanium platform.

For any tool. We view IA64 as a dying platform despite HP and Intel's multibillion dollar effort to keep it alive. Just 20,000 IA64 systems sold in Q4 of last year.

Windows Server 64-bit runs Sysinternal's tools!  that's great.

Just to avoid misunderstanding and confusion:

Mark said that the support for Itanium systems (IA64) has been stopped by Sysinternals.

This does not affect 64bit versions of Windows running on Intel Pentium or AMD processors.
