I have been using autoruns V9.57 for a long time without any problems.

I downloaded the new V11.2 and every time I run the program I get error fault (Windows 7, 32 Home Premium).  It occurs after scrolling for several seconds.  Same problem with elevated start.  (V9.57 still works fine.)

Any idea how to debug or fix this?  Here's the Windows app log:

try to delete the usersettings of AutoRuns in the registry (HKCU) and try it again.

I deleted the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\AutoRuns and then tried again.  This time I got the prompt to accept the end user license, but same error.

If I hit the ESC key quick enough I can prevent the exception code but if I let autoruns scroll all the way to the end process, it fails:

Does the program offset or other debug information help?

Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000295ae

Seems like the offset would help the programmer identify the code that was causing the exception error.  My guess is that one of the newer scan functions/options is failing because most of the scanning/scrolling finishes but close to the end it crashes.

Try to generate a crash-dump (adplus, WER, ProcDump) and send the dump to Mark via the "mail to author"- function in his personal blog.

I've been using Autoruns for a decade or so, always upgrading to each version. I have the same problem - the program faults after a few seconds - and this is the first time that I've had any problem with any version of Autoruns.

I'm running Vista 32-bit Home Premium.

I sent a PM message to Mark stating that I can/have created a Windows Error Report dump and can send it if anyone needs it to debug this problem.

But I haven't heard any response back.  It seems related to the scheduled tasks scan since I can use the cmd option just for scheduled tasks and it dumps.

Either email me a minidump file (.dmp) or a procmon trace of the crash (markruss@microsoft.com).

"C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\CrashDumps\autoruns.exe.2936.dmp" emailed.

I see no response from Mark on the forum after JohnAR e-mailed the dumps through. I've had the same problem on an old Windows XP laptop. JohnAR's mention of it appearing to crash only when doing the scheduled tasks and even from the command prompt, made me look further into my problem and sure enough the command line version crashed when doing a scan for all items (-a) but that showed me that it was scanning the Windows services at the time. I had a look in my list of services and noticed the @MaxSyncUp Service was still installed with no details showing up in the management console and since I haven't used that program in a long time I uninstalled it and voila - autoruns now works again. Maybe the @ symbol in the service name caused a problem? I hope this info helps track down what may be causing the problem in other areas as well.
