I've seen this posted a few times and even included in a magazine but from what I understand this is really bad advice as it will starve other threads of cpu time and potentially cause lockups. Is that actually right or am I missing something?

Quote is really bad advice

Many games run the CPU flat out. If, say, the game resorts to polling in a tight loop, "realtime" priority could lead to an inability to reacquire focus and hence a lockup. Use "Above Normal" (level 10) or "High" (13).

My $0.02.
