Sysinternals has been a big help to me. I only have one suggestion--that the Sysinternals Suite install shortcuts in the Start Menu to launch Sysinternal GUI applications.

Hi Michael,

You may wish to take a look at the following topic, which discusses this somewhat, and contains a link to another similar discussion:

Hi, Michael.

Sorry to interfere, but may I add this to molotov's hint: why should Mark and Bryce re-invent the wheel as Nir Sofer created a generic solution for such cases 4 years ago? => ZipInstaller v1.21

The ZipInstaller utility installs and uninstalls applications and utilities that do not provide an internal installation program. It automatically extracts all files from the Zip file, copies them to the destination folder you select, creates shortcuts in the start menu and in your desktop, and adds an uninstall module to allow you to automatically remove the software in the future.

Karl

Thanks. Sorry, I didn't realize that this had been covered in two previous threads. I thought I searched for Start Menu but didn't find these.

As it has seen more recent activity, the following topic is still relevant, I think:

To be honest what I tend to do is have a scheduled task to xcopy or robocopy all the tools keeping them up to date on my systems.  SOmething like xcopy \\live.sysinternals.com\tools\*.* c:\sysinternals /v/e/s then I stick c:\sysinternals into my path statement so I can run them from cmd or start/run...

My 2 cents or 2 pence (which ever is worth the most nowadays... Wink)

Hi Bob,

Yes, that technique has been referenced in other topics, with some going so far as to cause their scripts to only download the file in the event it has changed.

At the time of Michael's initial inquiry, live.sysinternals.com did not exist.  Thanks for the reminder! Smile

there is a program called cURL which can be used in a batch file to update packages over the internet.  you must redirect the output to a file.
example:
curl http://nowhere.com/files/something.exe > something.exe

it does NOT work if the filename contains a version number and the version number has changed.

a standalone installer would be much nicer, since file and printer sharing is a big security risk right now.  I use NSIS to write installers.  others use INNOSetup.

due to the risk of getting conficker, I dare not turn on file and printer sharing to get the sysinternals files from the aforementioned location.

could they be made available as a zip file at least?
