http://www.bindview.com/Services/razor/Utilities/Windows/str ace_readme.cfm has a utility strace to trace system services when a process is running (or when you launch a program). As far as I know, this utility, possibly called other names elsewhere, is available on almost all OSes. The development stopped a long time ago. There's another one at

Would be nice if Sysinternals offers one.
