Thanks, the file is 44Mb and I'll need an email address. I tried Mark's private one but to date got no reply. Guess I'll wait until Mark is back on-line.  Big%20smile

Not sure what you mean by "private one", but Mark doesn't make it difficult to find his email address.  I suspect Mark will get to it as time permits.

Getting same problem here. Trying to use the tool to troubleshoot application issues over remote desktop. So far every server I've tried to run this tool on via remote desktop has killed the session. I then can't ping or telnet to any port on the server.

The NOC is getting tired of running to the data center and manually rebooting the servers for me Wacko

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the data center so I can't start a second instance so I hope others can help.

Hi All,

I have the same problem during initialization, I can't even run the second instance of it.

I have no problem running with the noconnect switch but when I tried to enable the capturing it got hung

Thanks

OK, I believe a while ago I helped revive the discussion about ProcMon hanging. Hope you'll allow me to step back in here.
It seems that the discussion is about proving that ProcMon is the cause or not. Let's all agree it is (see the reproducible experiences of many others in this thread!). All these people also report that older versions of ProcMon always worked without problems; to me that seems proof enough.

A while back I was asked to make a memory dump and make that available to Mike. I did that the next day and my memory dump (it is 44Mb zipped) is waiting to be sent to a place where he can get to it ever since. Maybe if he could analyze that, he'll be able to find out where things went wrong? That would be a good start to get us moving into 'solution space'...
Until that time all I see is more reports of people that have problems and nobody who can crack this problem.

Makes sense??  Wink

Seeing the discussion go on the way it does and noting your comment that the double-instance/freeze issue might not be (exactly) the same issue as what ReneeFox is seeing (also because for him it occurs with all versions while the problem of the ones who initiated this thread noted that the recent version(s) of ProcMon freeze)... I'm suggesting you un-ravel the two and move them into separate threads.
This will allow ReneeFox and yourself to continue resolving and addressing his issues and will help the others to get back the focus on the original issue... hopefully with the renewed attention this will get solved (I'm still waiting to get my Memory ZIP file sent somewhere as Dave asked).

I do not want to stop either discussion, don't get me wrong here, just trying to suggest we give them seperate threads.... Makes sense? ReneeFox? Molotov? Wink

What's that, Erik? You want to move my posts to another thread? What would we call it? Can you actually do that for me, or can I do it? Yes, after doing things a little differently, it does appear that this isn't an initialization problem ... or is it? I'm not sure right now. I can get processes to display, which may be outside the realm of "hung initialization" ... except I don't get anything when I use the filter. Is that what you're saying? Plus, there IS the FREEZE issue, which is something else happening in combination? I'd have a hard time separating the 2, since ProcMon freezes whether I'm using a filter or not. Maybe a Moderator around here can put all my stuff in a separate thread; you're as new as I am on this Forum! I just noticed that. Hehehehehe

Oh my God! I just noticed that molotov is a moderator. Now, don't that beat all??????? Bwaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha!!! I judge people by what they say on Forums, not their titles or labels. Oh, well. If molotov wants to do that, it's fine with me. I don't care where my posts are; a resolution to the problem ProcMon is having is all that matters to me. I really need its output.

Hi Erik Jan and ReneeFox,

I had previously stated:

As I understand it, ReneeFox is able to capture events with the first instance of Process Monitor that is started.  It does not seem that the problem described is the same as what you are experiencing. I am inclined to consider these as two separate issues.

However, I was not sure at that time that ReneeFox's issue was different. So, I chose to leave it in this topic.

It does appear evident to me now that this matter should be in its own topic, as it is sufficiently different.

I have moved ReneeFox's issue into its own topic, "ProcMon reduces system performance".

Thank you for your patience.
