after PE had crashed, using File - Exit accomplished squat
I'm afraid I don't understand this comment - usually when a program crashes (and after Dr. Watson kicks in) one is not able to interact with it, either via the main UI or via any task bar icons the program may have.

Are you saying that you could actually recreate the crash and THEN use File and Exit?
Whan I was able to recreate the crash with PE 11.00, the procexp.exe process terminated, and there was no UI to interact with (as the process was of course dead).

Confused

Sorry M, on my machines, after PE had crashed, using File - Exit accomplished squat. Which is exactly why I had to resort to the task bar icon AKA activity icon. Are you saying that you could actually recreate the crash and THEN use File and Exit? If not, and if this secondary problem is not fixed, it will reappear if and when a future version of PE for some reason crashes. Looking forward to that ... Confused

Anyway I've been a bit busy, sorry for late reply, I'll try the fix ASAP.

Thank You.

Hello, xanbr.

As molotov announced and as ivan confirmed, the "crash on columns sets" bug has been fixed by Process Explorer v11.01.

Hi xanbr,

The problem of PE crashing when applying a column set (CTRL+1), as you described, has already been reported, and I strongly suspect (Wink) it will be resolved with the next minor release.  I have been informed that the next minor release will be on Monday.

Also, closing the program is a small hell because it refuses to close on its own, I have to point to the activity icon, right click, and select close.
How do you expect to be able to close the program?  File | Exit works, as does right-clicking the notification icon and choosing "Close Process Explorer".  AFAIK, this hasn't changed from the previous version...

If you have more details (Dr. Watson logs, Event Log entries, etc...) about the other crashes you experienced, please report them.

I've used PE since forever and have NEVER seen this problem before:
I've just tested v11.0 on a Windows XP Home SP2 and it craches every time I try to use a Column Set!
As a comparison, v10.11 works JUST FINE!

PROBLEM RECREATE: Just to be on the safe side and to dodge any wise guy comments, I started by REMOVING the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer".
Next, I start PE v11.0, agree to the EULA, and maximize the window.
Next, View->Save Column Set...->Column Set 0
Next, hit Ctrl+1 and PE crashes and burns.
Immediately after PE crashes, drwtsn32.exe also crashes. This of course, only applies at the FIRST PE crash after a Windows restart, but it has no effect on the PE problem: I can recreate the PE crash again and again regardless if drwtsn32.exe is running.
Also, closing the program is a small hell because it refuses to close on its own, I have to point to the activity icon, right click, and select close.
I've fiddled around by saving a couple of sets without calling them, and at one point when I selected View->Organize Column Sets... I had another crash, so the problem seems to be more than just a calling problem. However, I've not been able to recreate this second scenario.
On a couple of occasions, I've also had a crash when I select View->Load Column Set->Column Set 0 or 1, but this has also proven hard to recreate on demand.

So to conclude, I frickin' HATE v11.0!
It's a P.O.S. version and it's a mystery how it ever got approved for release!!

But I guess this is what we can expect from the future, now that it's a genuine MS product :(
