One thing worthy to note is you may need to right-click the NewSID.EXEand "Run as Administrator" even if logged in as an admin. I got "Could not access Computer's SID" unless I chose the run as option. |

EDIT (as new post): Just got around to newsid on Windows 2008 R2 Beta: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION :(
Am investigating but I don't hold out much hope at this stage. Anyone tried it on Windows 7 Beta? (Sorry not sure why the italics won't switch off!) Edited by mossywell - 23 April 2009 at 3:00pm |

FYI, I'm looking at a Windows 2008 R2 x64 beta system right now and it doesn't have the key duplication any longer, so one less thing to worry about.

newsid runs just fine both under vista sp1 x64 and 2008 server x64 (I tested on both).
But before running it, try to delete registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Wow6432Node ( REG DELETE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Wow6432Node /f ) According to posts from some other tech. forums, this nested duplicated key seems to be a winows bug (and in most cases it contains nothing valuable), and I observed that newsid , as weel as some other tools enumerating registry keys, run into infinite loop because of this stupid key. |

Kindly check this sub-forum for recent reports about using NewSID on
+ 64bit Windows platforms + Windows Vista and the problems people experienced when doing so. Very likely using NewSID on Windows 2008 64bit will not bring you too much joy. Karl |

Anyone know if the NewSID 4.1 utility is ok to use or has been tested on Windows server 2008 x64? The main documentation page does not mention Windows Server 2008. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
