Sure - there are many different configuration options, and combinations of configurations... Even with the help / quickhelp it can be difficult to determine what specifically one setting may impact...
![]() Which shell do you use, if I may go a bit off-topic by asking? ![]() Edited by molotov - 19 September 2008 at 2:19am |

No (I don't use Explorer much), I just tried to help with possible pointer that sounded like the issue described in the thread. GL |

No, changing that option doesn't affect the problem at all. It only appears when I have the "Common Task Pane" enabled. Edited by zakk - 18 September 2008 at 5:10pm |

Hi GL,
That setting only seems to affect Explorer when the Folders Explorer Bar is shown and is being used. Do you have different results? |

Folder options -> Display simple folder view in Explorer's folders list
(FriendlyTree in registry) sounds like the issue here. (Read the tooltip description. I don't know if it should be on or off). GL |

I'm afraid that I can't offer an explanation.
The workaround would seem to be to turn off the "Common Task Pane", or to use Explorer with the Folders "Explorer Bar" for the folders where you encounter this type of a problem.

At the time the disk activity stops, I get to see the contents. But that can take up to 8 mins ![]() Let me better rephrase my description of the problem: - the explorer.exe cpu usage goes straight to 100% from the moment I doubleclick the folder, and stays there up to 30 secs. - then the cpu usage lowers to near 10% and stays there, but the tree scanning continues in the background (thread BROWSEUI.dll) and I always have to wait totally up even to 7 minutes (!!) for the tree-scanning to complete (provided that it has started the scanning from scratch - that is, if I haven't killed the previous instance of explorer.exe some seconds ago , otherwise it may continue from the point where the scan was before the kill ) before I get to see the contents. During that whole time the explorer window appears as if it's hanged.. Edited by zakk - 16 September 2008 at 9:34pm |
