Yes, others have  made  feature requests to have Process Explorer store its configuration  information in a more "portable" fashion, such as you describe.

Well, of course it isn't uncommon ;) I was just trying to say that it would be much more useful for e.g. those who use Process Explorer on their portable drives if all configuration were stored in a single file (on their drive). You could just open the procexp.exe and columns and other options would be configured as it was set.

Process  Explorer (and the other Sysinternals utilities) stores its configuration data in the HKCU portion of the registry, which is the user-profile. So, the user will not need special permissions to run the program.
I meant - to upload configuration file stored in .reg into Windows Registry, not to run the program itself. You aren't always capable to "execute" the .reg file.

I'm just curious why you have chosen this kind of storing configuration.
The registry is not an uncommon location to  store configuration data for a program.  It is no wonder the developers of the Sysinternals tools chose the registry to store the configuration data for not just Process  Explorer, but all of the Sysinternals utilities.

Btw. sometimes have no system rights to upload a file into a registry

Thanks for replying.

That's interesting especially because PE is delivered as a .zip file, without installers.

Process Explorer stores values in, and loads values from, the registry.  Sorry, ini/xml/cfg files are not an option...

molotov, is there any way to "import" those settings into .ini or other cfg file which I could place in the same directory in which procexp.exe is stored?
Frankly I don't like using .reg.

Hi iKer,

Process Explorer stores its configuration information in [HKCU\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer].  So, you would want to export this key (or specific values / sub-keys), and then import the settings on another system.
