Oh, how to say this delicately... Embarrassed  (not saying you don't work hard, etc. Smile )...

On the other hand, you've probably not (yet?) created something like Windows Internals, where you put your brain sweat into it for months and months on end... Smile

Perhaps, consider the scenario from the standpoint of the author(s)...

Sample chapters of Windows Internals 4th Edition and other books have legitimately been made available electronically for at least in part the very reason you describe - "try before you buy"...

I dont see piracy as being an issue, really.
I find if I really like something then I will buy it.

Such as with Windows Internals e4. I highly doubt I would have ever ended up buying it, if I didn't actually find the ebook online at first. After seeing the material I realized it was a must have book, and I would do the same for Windows Internals e5, if I had seen it yet.

Honestly I think piracy can actually help promote sales.

Because I ordered the 4th ed. from Amazon, I was able to upgrade to their online reader's version, and I suppose I'd do the same when I get to the 5th ed.  It's better than nothing, but I really dislike having to have an Internet connection available to read it.  Those of use without broadband mobile cards are still going to be without the 'net sometimes...

I do understand the worry about piracy, though.  I've seen no protection on the ebooks I do have.  I can freely copy them between my computers with or without the CD. :-/

I don't think most books provide a CD-Rom that has the whole e-book on it. But it would be nice.

I guess you just got lucky Windows Internals e4 had it. Hell, I didn't even get one with mine... but luckily I found it online :P.

In fact I found the e-book for WI e4 before I bought the actual book. (I concentrate better when reading a hard copy of something, because with the computer and the internet, I go off on tangents, lol)

I can see your point, and I like the convenience of eBooks very much.  Searching, etc. is much nicer than an index and my clunky fingers.  But coming at it from another angle... Mark, David, and Alex put substantial efforts into the book, and there really isn't much that prevents one from taking an electronic copy of the book and sharing it...

I must admit, I'm a little disappointed. I am used to the convenience of PDF and capabilities it provides. I would like the choice of being able to read it on my computer. I bought the book, so I should get the right to read it on my computer. Ouch

Yes I have the Windows Server 2008 Resource Kit too. Although it does include several ebooks and sample chapters, It doesn't include Windows Internals 5th Edition Cry

Hi windbreaker,

Windows Internals - 4th Edition was bundled with the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit.  That bundle included the e-book, while the standalone book did not.  I do not know if some similar arrangement is available or may be in the works, with the 5th edition.

I bought the book and was disappointed there was no CD included with the eBook on it.

Is there going to be an eBook available for this Edition?  I read on my computer usually.
