Hello everyone,

I have been using ProcMon in attempts to troubleshoot delayed or slow network logon on numerous workstations in our domain.

I was able to successfully identify several issues which were machine specific and not domain wide which help in significantly increasing the workstation boot and logon time.

However, I have come to a cross roads and wondered if anyone else has or is experiencing the same results.

Issue:  Once a Home Folder is enabled for a user, the logon time to the domain increases by approximately 30 seconds.  If I disable the Home Folder, the logon time to the domain ranges from 3-5 seconds.  I have posted on several forums with no response as to why this is happening or what we may have implemented to cause this to happen.  This is not a new issue, we have been experiencing this for several years and it was finally decided we should attempt to resolve and I was volunteered to investigate.  I have tried using ProcMon to narrow down the delay during the logon process with the Home Folder enabled but with no success.  I have tried so many things to alleviate the issue, but I dont have a complete list...so I apologize for that.  I have tried modifying the permissions on the shares, used wide open shares, shares on different servers, etc.

I am now working with a test computer with nothing but Windows XP loaded.  I am using a user account with no group policies applied, no logon scripts, no group memberships with the exception of domain users.  The workstation has no group policy applied, no group memberships and has no applications installed, no virus scan utility....bare.  I still experience the same result.

I have also tried using NetMon to identify the delay but I am not successful in identifying the cause of the delay.

I know this is not exactly on topic, but if anyone has any recommendations as to how to use ProcMon or any other tool to determine what is happening during logon or could help me in analyzing the log files, I would greatly appreciate the advice.  I am at my wits end with this and of course, everyone wants an answer that I cannot provide.

Thanks in advance
