Well, I'm not sure that viruses are the cause, but the Process Name column can become invisible. I assumed that perhaps I had inadvertently collapsed it to a width of zero, but that's just a guess; I don't know how it happened.
Using a variant of molotov's advice, I did try exiting PE, modifying [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer], and then restarting PE. Within [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer], I changed ProcessImageColumnWidth from 0 to hex 40 (a temporary width). This made the column wide enough to be seen and I could then set the width within PE. The Process Name column is now independent of the other columns. It cannot be moved from the left-most position and the horizontal scroll bar does not include it. I'm not sure whether or not this is normal, but at least the column is visible now. I had a similar problem with the Path column (it too was invisible), but I was able to fix that by deselecting and then re-selecting the column, a solution not available for Process Name. Perhaps a future version of Process Explorer could set a minimum width for columns that are selected (especially if they cannot be deselected) to prevent this from happening. |

Hello, ya_really. The columns "Process" and "PID" are always grayed out inside the dialogue "View" => "Select Columns", because they cannot be disabled at all. It is suggested to follow molotov's default advice for such cases:
Kind regards, SvenBomwollen -- What makes you assume that a virus has hidden the columns "Process" and "PID"?

columns 'process name' & 'PID' are invisible (Disabled) due to
virus attacked. Any solution possible without using anti-virus ? |
