Molotov,
Documentation on the back burner? It's reassuring to know I have at least one thing in common with top-notch developers... Thanks again for your attention and responses. Edited by tslavens - 05 November 2009 at 6:54pm |

Yes, the help files for various utilities are out of date. As one might imagine, it seems that documentation tends to be something that is put on, or left on, the back-burner.
Of additional interest may be this, in the "Filemon and Regmon End of Life on 9/1/09 " section:
FWIW, as far as I am aware, there are few problems (tooltips, I think are one area) encountered / reported when running Process Explorer v11.33 on Windows 2000...

Molotov,
Well, I was hoping for an enumeration by OS (or OS group), but thanks for updating the FAQ. I *do* understand that the tools are "as is", and the reasons for retiring support for an old OS, although I can't help pointing out that Win2000 is still in extended support by MS through mid-2010. FWIW, the PE help file is out of date with regard to supported OS platforms. The CHM bundled with PE v11.33 describes support for Win9x and WinNT4 & 2000 in the "Overview" topic (last paragraph). That is unfortunate, as I was hoping I could examine the CHMs from my old PE archives to determine if Win2000 was still supported. I would recommend updating the help file for the next release of PE (and maybe check the ones for other tools). Edited by tslavens - 05 November 2009 at 6:55pm |

Hi Tom,
Sysinternals utilities are provided "as is". You may be interested in this: Runs On in download box:
The last version of Process Explorer that ran on NT4 was 11.11, if I recall. More background on the reason here (in the context of Win9x, but NT4 applies similarly). |

Hello,
I would expect that many of us have old versions of PE archived, but we're not sure when a given OS was dropped from official support. In my case, I'd like to know what was the last version of PE to support Win2000, but others would probably like to know about WinNT4, etc. It seems like this matter would best be in the FAQ, or linked from there. Thanks. Edited by tslavens - 05 November 2009 at 6:55pm |
