Hi All,
I would like a utility to do "wake on IP", let me explain: I have a home server that I don't want to be on all the time, just when it is needed. So far I managed to have the client pc's wake the server from standby when they start up, than they map a network drive to the server and all the shared files are available. But in reality the clients are not using this server 90% of the time. So what I really would like to do is have the server wake up when a client is using it's ip address, and go to standby when there are no more connections to it. I know that some nic's have a so called wake on arp or wake on ping function, but this seems to react on all kinds of network activitiy, not specifically network activity targeted at the server. The new utility that I envision is a kind of network hook that scans network packets for a specific ip address or mac address and based on this sends out a wake on lan packet that would only wake the server. Please let me know what you think. Maybe you know an existing sollution? regards, Asimov |
