Yes, different users can have different autoruns. But in the cases I tested, there were no differences at all. And even when I test exactly only one user against saved results created from scanning the autoruns of that same user, the glitch still happens if Autoruns is not closed after comparing the results and Refresh is used to scan the autoruns of the same user again and compared again to the same saved results. Weird glitch, on multiple systems, all XP SP3. I have not tested it with all possible settings, but Verify Code Signatures and Hide Microsoft and Windows entries enabled does cause the glitch. Others might too. |

Hello, Buggy Buddha.
If you compare an .ARN file created by user A to the current list created by user B, differences might be found, because the HKCU subtrees and the "%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folders of user A and user B may be different. So Autoruns always scanned the system for the current user when I followed your "Steps to reproduce". Yet, I could not reproduce the problem. Having performed step (4), Autoruns did not report any differences. (Which is correct.) + Autoruns v9.56 + Windows Vista Home Premium, 32bit Autoruns options used all the time - in case this matters - all 4 options unticked. Kind regards, SvenBomwollen |

I think there could be a glitch with 9.56 version. I've tested this on three different systems, all running Windows XP SP3 though, and I can reproduce it every time. The glitch or possible bug is in the Compare feature. What happens is that when I start Autoruns, it completes its scan as usual. Then, when I use Compare to compare the results with previously saved results (saved with version 9.56, so it should not be a version compatibility issue), it all works as it should and I get shown the differences if there are any, and nothing if there are no differences. Everything fine so far. But, if after comparing results I don't close autoruns, the glitch happens. If I hit Refresh (F5) or use the Users menu to scan the autoruns of another user, that works normally. But if I compare these new results with saved ones, there are many that are shown in green as changed, even if no change has happened! Even if exactly the same user was scanned only five seconds ago, compared with exactly the same saved ARN file, and no differences were shown. Something in the Compare feature seems to glitch, making it report falsely many entries as new/green, if you use Refresh or scan another User after the initial scan that happens automatically when Autoruns is executed has completed. Steps to reproduce: 1) Run Autoruns 9.56, wait for scan to complete. 2) Save the results. Close Autoruns. 3) Run Autoruns again, wait for scan to complete and then compare to saved results. You should get no entries reported as new/green. Do not close Autoruns now, leave it running. 4) Hit Refresh so Autoruns scans again. Once scan is complete, compare to the same saved results you just compared to and found no differences. Now you should get many entries reported as green/new, even though they are not new. |
