OK thanks, I think I'm going to need to do some reading on this. I have
a fast processor lots of RAM and it's intolerate there should be any delays
on my system. Something is screwing it up that's what I'm trying to get
to the bottom of.

I've also been trying to get some performance out of NT. There a few things you can do.
First of all go the performance applet and disable all those unnecessary things like window resizing that make for good eye candy but add nothing to the functionality of the system. Also you can open a cmd prompt and kill explorer. Killing explorer will lose the desktop and the taks bar but you still be able to open applications using the command line or the run applet and ALT-TAB will still cycle through your windows. This is as far as I've got really. I would really like to be able to kill the whole windowing environment altogether and leave menu driven DOS style environment but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. |

How about booting into safe mode with network support!!!LOL Well you can do a few things! What you should do is open up the System Configuration Editor by typing MSCONFIG in the run dialogue box accessible from the start menu. Under the startup tab you can enable/disable your startup items according to what you will need! You can also disable some windows services such as Secondary Logon, Messenger, Terminal Server and Windows Time Service provided that you don't use the functions provided by these services. You can modify your system services by typing Services.msc in the RUN dialogue from the start menu. If your system is running a little sluggish I would also suggest that you perform a disk defragmentation on your C: drive. You can access the disk defragmenter from the system tools folder in the start menu. NOTE: You WILL need administrative privileges on the local system in order to make most of these changes. Good Luck, Ben |

I suppose a part of me is nostalgic for the days of MS-DOS. Windows
lately has become more complicated over the years now to my question.
I looked at your process explorer (tried it) but I'm still not clear on what I can and cannot shut down. I want my system to run with mimium use of RAM I just want my wireless netconnection; just the bare essentials. Really as the topic states how can I optimize my computer to use the least amount of resources necessary? But also give me the greatest fuction as well. Help would appreicated thanks!
