Same problems exactly. Just bought a Dell XPS 600, Pentium D 940 w nvidia 6800 geforce, 256MB PCI-E (problems started out of the box) . Dell (lack of) support, as someone put it, had me scan for viruses, spyware etc then format drive and reinstall everything. Needless to say after several frustrating hours on the phone and in front of the cp, the high CPU usage, choppy sound and video, studdering mouse movements are all still present. I find it almost always starts after opening MEDIA CENTER. They are sending a new video card. I suspect, according to this forum, that replacing with the same card will not solve the problem. I may just return the entire system (I will have to eat the shipping costs - my 2005fpw 20" flat panel is faulty too - backlighting leakage around edges). By the way - don't buy a Dell dude! I will have to decide if the shipping costs to return the machine are less than purchasing an ATI card! Has anyone had any problems yet once they changed to an ATI card? What ATI card is comparible in quality (assuming the 6800 worked
Before changing for a 7900 GT I tried an ati sapphire X800 GTO˛ with no problems too - no more dpc's so my advice is that you can take any card but the 6800 !!
Here is my last contribution for this topic about dpc's ,some will change their hardware as I did others won't . I talk about my own experience and what I think about dpc's and 6800 . do what you want and good luck if you think that resolving problems by running some third programs to make dpc's disappear, is satisfying ...

Hello
now with new drivers 84.21 I am having better results, DPCS are almoust gone, one thing is that I realy can't find out what is trigering them? They usualy start sudenly and increase untill 100 % DPCS and then it start to fall back slovly until they disapire, also I now that they stoop as soon as any 3d aplication (openGL) is started. Any why I recomend that evrybady try's new driver ad see if things are better. |

Nothing on my end, I've sent a RMA request to NewEgg on mine as I saw that the full 6800 cards are now like $99 after a rebate and I do not believe they have the same problem as the 6800GS. I was trying to play WoW yesterday and was getting around 10fps with all thie DPC BS going on, so I just logged out. |

I have the same problem as everybody else. Has anybody found any solution or is changing the card only thing that I can do?

...and add me to the list as well. My system:
- Dell Dimension 9150 - Geforce 6800 - Windows XP professional I have tried everything I could think of, short of replacing my video card. One remark I haven't seen before: when I play MPEG files , the DPCs fall back from 50% to 1~2 percent. E.g. run Media Player with an MPG-2 file. Even when I pause the movie and minimize the player, the DPCs stabilize around 10~20%, which is workable. When I play the movie, DPCs drop slowly. When I close Media Player, DPCs go back to around 50%. I'm afraid the only option left is to buy an ATI card... ![]() |

Well works a little better for now with 84.21 but i notice it is still there and as allways it can get verry frustrating. Dont know why but when i start any game its verry choppy in the begining but if i play it for a while it somehow gets fixed and works ok untill i start some other game then it starts again. Man i just dont understand how come they still didnt fix this thing i mean i see it is posible for it to work normaly but i just dont get it what is the trigger that makes this high DPC usages to apear and dissapear.

I guess I'll chime in here too.
I've been fighting this problem for days and I updated to 84.21 today and I'm still having the same problem (showed back up immediately after reboot). I have a EVGA 6800 GS (PCI-E) in a HP a1250 system. I'm starting to wonder if there is still time to return my card to NewEgg because this is just insane. My old built-in ATI X200 was slow, but at least it didn't pull this junk. I wish they'd just fix it because I'm quite happy with WoW and it would only be better if they'd fix this performance drain. :( At least this answers my question on why the crap my mouse does not seem smooth at all. |
