I had posted earlier with the same DPC symptoms. I have an nForce 3 Ultra motherboard (DFI nF3 UT LanParty [I don't recomend it BTW])  with nVidia 6800 AGP video card (Gainward) running Windows XP x64.

I went through a round of updating my motherboard drivers. I am now using the following: Sound 4.62 (from driver set 6.83), Network 4.82 (from driver set 6.69), SMBus 4.50 (from driver set 6.69 [same on later sets], and Video 81.98. I tried updating the IDE drivers too, but they still say Microsoft - strange

Well, since I updated these drives I have not seen the spikes in DPC usage. I still sometimes see it go up to 5-8% in Prcoess Explorer, but nothing that stops the mouse and all other activity like it did before.

Hope this helps somebody.

- Tyler

Hi - rewbie here.

Been surfing about trying to find a resolution for my gathers Dell Dimension 8400 (aslo running a geforce 6800 vid card) his machine has been back to dell UK and they swaped the mother board - guess what?, problem still here. They had the pc back in sept and my dad has been suffering with it till now. Looks like a new video card is the answer - this really sucks that he'll have to fork out cash to get his pc working.

His DPC's were up around 40% earlier when i looked at it.

and I only found this site AFTER doing a full recovery to factory setting etc , never mind, i need to look at it positivly - i've learned a lot tonight

gotta laugh or you'll cry

Hi,

my name is Martin. I`m from Germany and I have the same problem with my Dimension 9150, Geforce6800. I had the same problem with my Dell Dimension 5000, also with an Geforce6800. Dell Support changed almost everything but they did not fix the problem. They only did not change the Geforce6800. So they changed the Dimension5000 for an Dimension9150. And now i have the same prolbem.......... < =text/>

I am sure that Nvidia are aware of the problem and I have heard that they are delaying the official release of 84.20 drivers due to trying to find a fix to the problem.

One thing that I have noticed that seems to be working (2 Days now!) is to run the 3DMARK06 Benchmark which seems to download some additional files for direct x. Once ran once my CPU percent has been fine since and like I said it is 2 days and counting.

You can get it from guru3d.com and it's quite a big download (500mb+) but so far it seems to have worked

Good luck everyone and lets hope that Nvidia get their arses in gear and fix this problem

Steve

MY computer was 3 days at a service place where i bought the card and all they could say is everything works fine , yea right the moment i got it home it started to bother me again with the high CPU usage. I really dont know what am i supose to do now. if i only new is it hardware or software that makes the problem so i would get rid of my card and buy a new one but if it is only a software or driver error it may be fixed in the near future.. Oh well one thing i know my next card is definetly not going to be Nvidia.

Downloaded and installed the BETA 84.20 driver.  Seemed to work OK for about three hours and then back to the same.  Running with the driver disabled again........

Ok i tried the new version of drivers (84.20)now it seems that it works better on the fresh booted windows and i did not have high cpu usage while not doing anything.Though it does not mean a thing it can start any moment. But i tried playng a game and this is what the game does while playng the anymation everithing goes ok then the loading screen seems very slow and the loading time is awful and when the game begins everithing is choppy and slow for a few moments but it gets fixed after a while or if i get out of the game and get back in(alt+tab). Any of you have any positive input with these new drivers.

Disabled the driver version 7.7.7.4  7/8/2005 for Nvidia 256MB GeForce 6800 about 1345 hrs today after another "storm" of CPU usage and DPC's.  Instantly saw the problem cease.  It hasn't returned as yet.  (1730 hrs)

First contact with Dell's (see previous post) XPS Support was non productive.  Have contacted via email reply once again with this observation and await their reply.

Will post again if and when the solution is found.
