I go back to a previous post in this topic - video hardware, or video driver, perhaps?

I finally figured it out. At one of the sites I work at, I tried showing someone the program and LiveZoom did not work although the regular Zoom worked. It was a XP computer and I realized that the LiveZoom does not work with XP as it clearly says so in the program.
A few months ago, an IT guy was trying to optimize one of the computers I use at work for Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition. He tried minimize the resources used by the sytem by going into "advanced system settings", selecting the "Advanced" tab, select "Visual effects", and selecting "Adjust for best performance". I did the same thing on my Vista Business 64 computer, but this disables Aero and many of Vista appearance functions and makes it look more like XP. One of these Vista functions was disabled which I guess is needed for LiveZoom. Once I changed the setting to "Let Windows choose what is best for my computer", LiveZoom started working! I am not sure which Vista visual effect function is needed for LiveZoom to work, but I do not have time to figure it out now.
Thank you all for all your advice.

I looked at my DV2Z Windows 7 RC1 settings, and it is also set to "Adjust for best performance" so it looks more like XP with the Aero functions turned off. I am not sure what the difference is between Windows 7 64 and Vista Business 64 that "Adjust for best performance" will interfere with LiveZoom in Vista but not in Windows 7. I may try to compare the two some more if I have time, but I am just glad to have LiveZoom working.

Yes, if you do happen to do more experiments and come to any conclusions, please to indicate what they may be!

I went through the performance options and had only one checkbox on at a time and went down the list to see what function LiveZoom needed, but it still did not work. I then randomly checked off a few boxes at a time until I got it working, then I unchecked off an additional box at a time until it stopped working. I could have also had all the check boxes on and uncheck one at a time, but luckily I figured out the two functions needed for LiveZoom to work without spending too much time.
If you have windows set to "Adjust for best performance" and LiveZoom does not work, check off: 1 Enable desktop composition and 2 Use visual styles on windows and buttons.
Right click My Computer, select "Advanced system settings" in the left side bar, pick the "Advanced" tab, on the "Visual Effects" tab pick "Custom", and make sure the two options above are activated(ie. 1 Enable desktop composition and 2 Use visual styles on windows and buttons.)
Hope this helps someone else.

So I got ZoomIt on my Vista 32 computer about a year ago and everything was perfect.
Then one day, LiveZoom stopped working, Ctrl+4 now only shows a black screen with a large white mouse cursor. I have not been able to remedy that since... 1. I tried messing with Vista's visual effects settings as described here in the experiments 2. Installed latest graphics drivers Nothing changed, still no LiveZoom - also the ctrl up / down controls don't work, only ctrl + arrow down leaves the zoom mode after a couple of hits in a row 3. I think quite a few people are having these issues with LiveZoom and there seems to be no conclusive solution for this problem - LiveZoom is the ONLY usefuly thing on ZoomIt for me though, so it's a real pity... 4. Anyone found the real reason why it doesn't work (anymore: maybe some Windows Update screwed it up or who knows what...) ? I'm not quite ready to give up on this, so pls keep it coming ;) |

I found out that I need to use Vista standard theme, not the Win95-like theme, in combination of the settings mentioned above for the LiveZoom to work.
